Burp Rags

I've been wondering what to do with the small strips of fabric I have left over when I cut out fabric for my quilts.

I finally decided these burp rags would make a cute addition! They come in sets of 2 or 3 and coordinate with matching quilts.

I back them with the same minky dot fabric for baby's head to rest on comfortably.

My husband is so sweet! He surprised me with a day at the spa. I get to choose 3 treatments from a long list that includes things like massages, facials, body wraps, manicures, and pedicures. I'm pretty excited about that! Now I just need to take off a full day at work to get it done (I think I'm more excited about that part).

In case you live in the area, the gift certificate is for the Primrose Retreat in Spanish Fork. They just opened up pretty recently on Expressway Lane. It should be fun!

Little Old Ladies

Ever noticed that once a certain age is reached, you have one of two paths to follow? You can either be the "nice old lady/man" or the "cranky old lady/man". I don't think I've ever seen anything in between. Just something I was thinking about while at work. The sweetest old guy I've ever met came in this morning with his wife nagging at him the whole time. I just hope I don't end up all cranky like that.

I just got a new little Etsy present in my mailbox yesterday! I ordered these cute earrings a little bit ago from DesignedbyRJ.

They are even better in person, I love them! Opening the package they came in was literally like opening a present. They were wrapped up so cute with tissue paper and ribbon, it felt like my birthday.

I first saw this shop a while ago and fell in love with their cuffs. Today (while I was supposed to be working) I came across this little number in their shop. I love pink, but this pink is above all other pinks. It's so cute! It's listed as a pillbox, but I'm thinking it would make a perfect contact lens case. It will at least be more motivating to take them out at night rather than sleeping in them (yes, I got in trouble my optometrist) :)

I'm a sucker for pretty, shiny, pink things so I bought it. It came the other day and it's so cute! I just wish I could afford the cuff that matches it. It works great as a contact case too, so long as I don't let my 18 month old have it. It's not made to hold liquid, so it will leak if it's not always upright. It's even got me in the habit of taking out my contacts at night. My optometrist will be so impressed I'm sure!

Jergens Natural Glow

It's that time of year again, time to get rid of the pasty white legs! I used to have enough time to soak up the sun and get a real tan, but those days are over. Although I've tanned in cancer beds a lot in the past, I'm not sure it's that great of an idea anymore. One of the salons in my area has a Mystic Tan booth, which really does a great job of giving an even natural looking tan, but last I checked the price was $15 a session.

Just yesterday I started using the Jergens Natural Glow. I've heard of several people using it and liking the results, so I decided to give it a shot. So far so good, although it says it's supposed to take up to a week to work, and after 2 applications I already see a difference. I'm hoping it doesn't get much darker. They make it in three different shades -- I'm using the medium. I'll post later to let you know how it goes!

UPDATE 4/24/2008

After 4 applications once a day, I'm still loving the results! It's definitely more noticeable now, but not streaky and not orange at all. Although I have learned to apply it at night because it has an unpleasant odor and I don't want to go to work stinky. It also came with a sample size face moisturizer, the results aren't as drastic, but I'm happy with it!

I've been in a pink and brown mode for a while now and finally broke free! I love the way this one turned out. It's so fun and bright, it reminds me of spring. It's made with fabric by Moda (my favorites!) and the back is pink and white polka dotted minky.
This one is a mini size (about 24" X 24"). It's really nice for an on-the-go mom because it won't drag on the ground while being carried around or pushed in the stroller.
As always, it's all wrapped up and ready for gift giving!

I've been wanting to try this for a little while now, and it just arrived in the mail yesterday! I haven't had much time to experiment with it yet, but the smell is delicious! I've got lots of feedback on Etsy already, unfortunately it's not because I'm selling like a madman, but buying! I found this diaper/tote bag a little while ago and finally decided I had to have it! It's just as cute as the pictures, and it arrived at my doorstep in no time. I ordered on a Friday and it got to my house on Monday. I've never seen speedier shipping. I love the detail that went into it, the ribbon around the outside is my favorite. The inside is lined in pink with 3 separate pockets. It's probably not big enough for a newborn (since you need 20 diapers, a change of clothes, formula, etc.) but it's absolutely perfect for what I need!

I've had quite a few people ask if I can personalize their blanket. Although I don't have an embroidery machine as of yet, this is a very cute alternative! I'll be adding the option of having an appliquéd initial added onto the bottom right corner of any of my quilts.

The blue ones are made with cotton on the front and turquoise polka dot flannel on the back.
The purple ones were done with flannel Moda fabric on the front and a really soft minky swirl fabric on the back. They both come in a set of two separate rags.

Camera

Yesterday it was pretty sunny so I was going to retake some of the pictures that were taken on cloudier days. I went to get my camera and it's lost! We took it around on Easter, so it could be almost anywhere. I was looking around at other cameras online and they have come down in price so much since I bought my last one. It was only about 3 years ago and I paid around $300 for a 3 something mega pixel camera. You can get a 7.1 mega pixel camera now for $150-$200. So maybe it's just time to invest in a better one!

Easter weekend was lots of fun, but now I'm so behind. Usually I get a lot of stuff done on Saturdays, but we had a few family parties to attend. I've got piles and piles of cut up fabric that needs some attention. We'll worry about the messy house later :)

So I don't know if Costa Vida is a nationwide chain or not, but it is my FAVORITE lately! There's seriously something in that stuff, I'm completely addicted. The sweet pork salad is to die for!

I just finished up this custom order earlier this week. It's made with a variety of 5 flannel prints on the front in lavender and yellow. The back is lavender minky swirl fabric that is slightly iridescent, changing color in different lighting.

I've been tagged by one of my favorite shop owners, Meg of Bode22 which I've come to understand means that I have to bore you with 7 random facts about myself! Oh boy!

1. You could say I'm a pretty motivated person haha... I got married two days before I turned 19, and gave birth to my little girl the day before I turned 20.

2. My latest favorite gadget is our TiVo! I can keep up with all of my favorites on my own terms.

3. I'm slightly clutsy to say the least. In December I sliced off the tip of my finger with a rotary cutter while cutting through a few layers of fabric. It's since been sewn back on and aside from the scar, you can't even tell!

4. The furthest I've ever travelled is California (I live in Utah). The first time I took a plane was just this last December to Colorado -- We went to pick up our car at an auction there.

5. If I could choose any place to visit, it would definitely be Italy! My great grandparents are Italian, so I've always wanted to see it -- not to mention eat and eat and eat there!

6. I'm double jointed in my fingers and I can shape my tongue into a 3 leaf clover.

7. I can wear kids size shoes. A size 4 in children's shoes is the same as a women's 5-6!

Now I get to choose 3 others to endure the same torture! I'm gonna go with...

I'm in love! This blanket is so stinking cute, it's made with 7 different prints that I picked up at my local fabric shop. The back is made out of chocolate brown minky dot chenille. This one is about 35" X 35" a little bit smaller, but still crib size!

My shipment came! I got more chocolate brown Minky Dot fabric (my favorite!) so I'll be able to finish up some more quilts this weekend. One will match the Paisley Fun Travel Size. The other one will be some really great prints I picked up at my local fabric shop with shades of pink and brown. They are more elegant and shabby chic than some of my other baby girl blankets. I also have a custom order I'm hoping to have done later next week, so I should have lots more pictures to share soon!

I tried something new with this one! It's a little mini blanket at 28" X 28", perfect for traveling with a stroller or a carseat. The back is a cute polka dot flannel, and the front is made with 12 different prints in shades of turquiose, green and brown. I have enough fabric left over to make a full size one, so check back to see it finished!

Here's my newest blanket! It's a little bit smaller than the others at 35" X 35". I made it with Marcus Brothers fabric called Surf and Sand. The colors are the best! The back is made with the Minky Dot chenille in chocolate brown. It's too cute, if I only had a boy...haha :)

I finally figured out what I needed to do to get a business license and a DBA and all that good stuff! So now I will be able to buy wholesale fabric (cross your fingers). I'm just waiting to hear back from Moda -- my absolute favorite fabrics. If all goes well I will be able to make more money on the ones I sell online and be able to make them for my friends and family MUCH cheaper! I'm so excited!!!

I'm working on a new project, finally! This one is going to be made with the Flirtations fabric (18 different fabrics) and the back is going to be brown minky dots! I'm about halfway done, so hopefully I'll be done with it tonight and be able to get pictures taken tomorrow! Make sure you come back and see!

Long Fray VS Short Fray

I love the long fray with rag quilts! It gives it a more interesting look, but also takes up lots of fabric! In this example, the blue quilt is done with 1/2 inch seams. It's cute enough, but the pink one is made with full inch seams and I just think it looks so much better!

I just bought the cutest fabrics to start some new quilts. I love buying new fabric, picking it all out is one of my favorite parts! Now I just need it to get here soon so I can get the Valentine's ones done before Valentine's is over!

Work is boring as ever so I guess that gives me time to post my little heart out! It makes it so much harder to get through the day when I have time to think about all the other things I could be doing with my day.

My little girl is finally taking an interest in walking! I thought she'd never get there but now that she's just over 16 months she's walking more and more every day. Now I guess the next milestone is potty training. Eesh, that ain't gonna be easy!

I'm from a small area in Utah where I've lived all my life. I am married to my best friend and we have a little girl. I have loved sewing since high school and I recently got back into it. I have been designing and creating rag quilts especially for babies the past few months and I'm having a blast with it! My favorite part is getting new fabric, it's so exciting starting a new project.
